Dr Alastair Bint has been an NHS GP for over 20 years, based in Guildford, Surrey. He is accredited with the Expert Witness Institute, the UK Register of Expert Witnesses, AvMA and APIL. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of General Practitioners, gained by assessment and a Fellow of the Expert Witness Institute. Dr Bint curently works as a freelance GP working in both in and out of hours settings. He is qualified to supervise junior doctors in General Practice and has worked as a Clinical Lead. He was Chairman and then Provost of the South West Thames faculty of the Royal College of General Practitioners. He sat on the Kent Surrey and Sussex postgraduate GP education executive committee for 8 years and sat on the joint revalidation board helping GPs with the educational requirements for revalidation with the GMC. He was nominated 'clinical champion' for healthcare in Surrey in 2010. He frequently teaches on expert training courses and teaches Solicitors on medical negligence cases including training days for NHS Resolution.
Dr Bint has provided expert opinion on over 6,000 alleged medical negligence cases and he has received instructions from all over the UK and Ireland for Claimant and Defence (MDU, MPS, MDDUS and NHS Resolution) in equal measure. He has provided expert opinion in GMC fitness to practice cases, given his opinion for Civil and Criminal Courts and been appointed independent expert in Coroner, Procurator Fiscal, Fatal Accident Enquiry and NHS England cases. He has provided opinion to the CPS in relation to gross negligence manslaughter charges. He is widely considered to be a robust witness and his strength as an expert comes from his ability to set out simply and clearly the expectations of reasonable medical practice. He has testified at Civil and Criminal Courts and has a particular niche in Coroner work, giving expert evidence at Inquests around the country as the Court appointed expert on over 70 occasions.
He has provided expert opinion in the jurisdictions of England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, Ireland, Hong Kong, Grand Cayman, Gibraltar and St Helena.
